On Saturday 19th January the ESCAPE allotment held their annual 'Wassail' event. Wassailing is an ancient custom that involves a noisy procession through the orchard to scare away evil spirits and ensure a healthy apple crop for the following season. ESCAPE's Wassail involved the burning of a two year old willow sculpture and the introduction of a new improved sculpture to represent the cycle of nature.
After the procession to the orchard, participants were invited to continue the festivities at the Community Centre for a traditional ceilidh with music from project co-ordinator Katy Fullilove's band 'the Hobblers'. There was also hot soup, drinks and a raffle. All money raised will go back to Family Action for the allotment project.
