The official launch of ShopAppy in Breckland is to take place in Swaffham Market Place on Friday 13th April from 11am. Swaffham was chosen as the launch town as it has seen the most interest in the scheme, with many of the most well known independent retailers in town signing up to join.
If you haven't already heard of ShopAppy, it is an online platform that sets out to give local shops the power of a superstore by having all the local products in one place. ShopAppy was founded by Jackie Mulligan, who loves shopping in her home town of Saltaire. She and many of her friends were worried about seeing many of the great local shops struggling because of the increasing competition from supermarkets and online shopping giants.
ShopAppy is now used in several towns around the UK and has seen great success so far. A survey carried out in the existing towns found that 91% of people are saying ShopAppy encourages them to shop local more and shops are reporting seeing new customers inspired to come into towns by the shop windows online. Let's hope Swaffham and the other towns in Breckland see similar success!
If you're still keen to find out more, then be sure to pop down to the launch, where there will be lots of activities going on, including a raffle with prizes from local ShopAppy retailers.
